About this role:
The ideal candidate will have technical expertise identifying, developing & implementing metal joining technology, specifically “Brazing” and “Welding”. This position will be a key member of the Global Advanced Manufacturing team who will work closely with Business Unit Advanced Manufacturing teams, Plant Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Maintenance, Indirect Procurement, and equipment suppliers to deliver new equipment to the production floor and drive continuous improvement in the installed base of equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the SME and technical “owner” for Brazing / Welding applications from initial design continuing through sustaining engineering and continuous improvement activities.
- Participate in NPI (New Product Introduction) programs consisting of design, development, prototyping and manufacturing implementation with an emphasis on Design for automation. This will involve the creation of design for automation guidelines associated with brazing and welding.
- Assess production trends and yield - Lead site failure analysis efforts and mentor plant production / engineering / quality personnel along the way.
- Business case development including Capital Appropriation Requests (CAR), design, planning, and execution of automated technology projects for brazing / welding processes within our global manufacturing environment. Emphasis on advancing our technology deployed in these processes through a 5-year implementation roadmap.
- Work with local plant engineering, manufacturing, and management to evaluate brazing / welding automation project needs and develop project scopes for implementation at the respective locations.
- Provide technical support to the manufacturing operations as well as supporting our supply chain partners.
- Ensure constant EH&S compliance and deployment of best practices on our brazing / welding manufacturing processes.
- Develop and host Brazing / Welding Councils for the global users for sharing best practices and ensuring collaboration.
- Develop Proactive / Predictive best practices for maintenance on Brazing / Welding equipment to ensure world class uptime on the installed equipment. Solutions should incorporate best IOT techniques and enable AI / ML strategies for continuous improvement opportunities.
- Develop Approved Vendor List in conjunction with AME Teams, Indirect Purchasing, and Plants to standardize technology deployed, and leverage Carrier spend in the most efficient manner.
- Develop global guidelines that define Make vs. Buy for Brazed / Welded components.
- Monitor installed base capacity and provide recommendations to the appropriate business teams to have available capacity ahead of demand.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
- 10+ years’ experience in Manufacturing, Process, Quality, or Technology roles.
- 5+ years’ knowledge of Brazing / Welding techniques in a world class manufacturing environment.
- 5+ years’ experience managing multiple projects and working on and/or leading multidiscipline teams or workgroups.
- Travel required 25-50%
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge of equipment controls required, automation/robotics experience desired.
- Familiarity with production systems / scheduling of machinery and processes common to metal enclosed products is desired.
- Must have project management experience to include planning, budgeting, supplier negotiations, equipment layout, and implementation, and communicating with internal customers.
- Must be able to work with minimal direct guidance or direction from others.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Strong computer skills required, including AutoCAD, MS Excel, and MS Project.
- Demonstrated ability to foster positive relationships with production employees, peers, and manufacturing management.
- Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering, materials science, materials engineering, weld engineering, industrial engineering, or mechanical engineering, from an accredited university.
- SCHEDULE FLEXIBILITY: Position is a global support role that will require interaction with teams in North America, Europe, SE Asia, and China. Will need to adjust schedule to flex working hours to participate in virtual calls in work hours with those regions.
