Carrier’s Kidde Detection Technology is searching for a Staff-Level Electrical Engineer to join the design team located in Colorado Springs, CO.  In this position, you will have responsibility for new projects that challenge you on all levels, including low cost and low power design, analog circuit design and signal integrity of a variety of sensors, and integration of wireless daughter boards. You will be given the opportunity to leverage your engineering skills and experience as a lead engineer that is empowered to impact the course of the design team and the organization. We invite you to assess how our industry-leading product portfolio operates today and innovatively define and implement improvements on the next wave of new product development.

We are seeking individuals who are:

  • Detail-oriented, intuitive and sticklers for doing it right the first time
  • Able to demonstrate their ability to succeed in a complex engineering environment providing seasoned leadership experience to share career knowledge gained and help avoid design pitfalls.
  • Passionate about delivering high-quality, low-cost design for consumers that save lives
  • Innovative thinkers, always seeking the next technical challenge to accomplish.
  • Critical thinkers and successful problem solvers; highly adept at using sound technical logic and detailed statistical data analysis to identify the strengths and weaknesses of primary and alternative solutions.
  • Possess very strong analog as well as AC and DC power supply design skills
  • Amazing troubleshooters with efficient and highly effective debugging skills enabling fast root cause determination
  • Committed to team success with constructive and collaborative interpersonal skills in a team environment leading to the successful solution of multi-disciplinary design challenges
  • Able to manage multiple tasks concurrently, each with demanding timelines while managing and mentoring junior engineers as customer and business goals require
  • Highly analytical and avid problem solvers who “speak with data” and are openly willing to learn and share knowledge to advance the team effectiveness.
  • Responsible, willing to take full ownership of their work and contributions to the team

As a Staff-Level Electrical Engineer, you'll be expected to:

  • Use your advanced knowledge of discrete circuits to design and verify them through simulation, bench testing and detailed characterization to ensure operation across a range of environmental conditions
  • Utilize various sensing technologies to detect carbon monoxide, smoke, indoor air quality and more – ensuring they are consistently and reliably produced within the statistical product requirements maintaining 100% quality and certification adherence.
  • Participate with the team in electrical system design and innovation, prototyping and transitioning to production taking ownership of major portions of the project or the entire project.
  • Serve as a technical lead member of a team tasked with developing smoke, gas, and heat alarms.
  • Design electronics to meet the functional specifications within cost targets, oversee prototyping and testing for compliance and robustness.
  • Perform analysis and simulation on circuit designs prior to assembly to ensure design goals will be met i.e. meet or exceed all design requirements.
  • Provide experienced insights into possible design opportunities and limitations.
  • Develop diagnostic techniques and provide support to production engineers tasked with transitioning products to very high-volume manufacturing.
  • Works autonomously with limited oversight while managing large and complex projects and process improvements.
  • Professionally communicate with parties within and outside of the NPD EE department serving as a strong representative for our team and company.
  • Accurately plan individual and team activities, and drive to the agreed to delivery dates

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Physics from an ABET accredited college or university
  • 7+ years of design experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced design and development skills in mixed signal digital and analog circuits with a proven track record of successfully launching products.
  • Hands on experience troubleshooting analog circuits, including EMC, ESD, and Transient testing
  • Advanced Minitab (or other statistical analysis tool) skills
  • Skilled in Matlab script writing for automation of data analysis and reporting
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Innovative out-of-box thinker with a high aptitude and preference for data collection and analysis automation
  • Experience leading projects successfully as an engineer, and ability to communicate with cross-functional team members to collaborate and execute as a team
  • Skillfully and physically capable of using electrical engineering tools for debugging circuits and modifying surface mount assemblies.
  • Thorough experience designing and analyzing sensing systems comprised of optical components (LEDS, Photodiodes) and/or light scattering inference methods
  • Ability to design low power products capable of achieving very long life with non-replaceable batteries
  • Strong working knowledge of manufacturing and test processes for electrical designs
  • Strong experience with development of wirelessly connected devices – bringing them up from conceptualization, design implementation, integration testing, and final verification
  • MS in Electrical Engineering or Physics from an ABET accredited college or university
