About this role

In this position, you will be responsible for the development and launch of residential geothermal products to meet regulatory requirements and customer requirements.  In addition to these product responsibilities, you will manage the efforts and outputs of product development teams around you to improve the development of work standards, design guides, and knowledge-sharing.  The ideal candidate will have experience in HVAC product design and development.  Knowledge of HVAC systems and components such as compressors, heat exchangers, blower systems, control systems, and other related components is desired.

In this role, you will interface with product development engineers and designers. You will also be collaborating with members from other functional groups such as Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, Suppliers, and Advanced Technology Development.

Key Responsibilities

The candidate will have responsibility for the following in addition to ad hoc assignments.

  • Lead project teams, providing support to cross-functional project teams.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Reliability, Manufacturing, and Sourcing to implement key metrics into the design of the product and ensure all reliability design goals are achieved.
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with diverse audiences including but not limited to: junior engineers, cross functional team members, global suppliers, and external customers including service managers and technicians.
  • Contribute to their team or department by applying their knowledge of one or more functional areas.
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of Mechanical Engineering.
  • Manage team efforts and systems to development standard work, guides, procedures to execute product development.
  • Manage elements of product development activities including cost estimates, implementation of standard specifications, drawing board layout and interpretation, and development of performance or maintenance requirements.
  • Produce parts, specifications, designs, or sketches for machines, components, systems or work orders / purchase requests
  • Work with Quality and related departments to support the test and verification of field issues.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with product design/development and/or project management of designs.
  • 3+ years of experience implementing continuous improvements and/or standardized processes.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and/or combustion.
  • Experience in designing similar products for high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Capacity to self-direct/motivate with a vision toward overall product goals.
  • Experience in the development of residential HVAC products (or related appliances) which involve vapor compression, combustion, heat exchangers, and/or airflow related hardware.
  • Ability to write technical, reliability, and quality specifications.
  • Project leadership experience.
  • Experience working in a team environment with support groups (product quality, testing, marketing).
  • Intermediate level skills with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Project.
  • Organized with strong attention to detail, while managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong cross functional team experience.
