We are seeking a Mechanic/Machinist to join our Compression and Motors Engineering team at our R&D center located in Syracuse, New York. This position will support a wide variety of mechanic and machining activities in support of Carrier’s compressor development activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build prototype compressors, make compressor modifications, and perform compressor tear down analysis
- Test operation
- Troubleshooting and diagnostics
- Test equipment modification and construction
- Test equipment maintenance
- Perform a variety of machining operations, including lathe, mill, and the general operation of machine tools
- Apply general mechanical talents including brazing, welding, and installation of special instrumentation devices to support compressor design, testing and development
- Additional tasks may include part inspection and use of measurement equipment
Required Qualification:
- High School Diploma
- 5+ years of experience working in a laboratory or mechanical machining environment operating machine tools
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree, Technical/Business School Certificate or Diploma, Skilled Trades Apprenticeship, or other post high school.
- Training from a compressor manufacturer or associated technical school is preferred
- Tool and Die Maker and/or Refrigeration Certification a plus
will consider candidates with less experience and more education. - Experience with refrigeration, brazing, machining, and mechanical field experience preferred.
- Self-starter who can achieve results.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience with Microsoft Office.
- Candidate must be able to effectively interact with other lab resources and engineers.
- Understands GDT tolerance and can work both imperial and metric measurements
