About This Role

United Technologies Electronic Controls (UTEC) Control Box Group designs, develops, and manufactures control and control panel solutions for the HVAC, refrigeration, and other OEM related markets globally.  UTEC is seeking an Engineer to be based in Fort Wayne, IN.  The available opportunity is a critical and comprehensive role within the Control Box Engineering group.  UTEC is a fast-paced and growing business, and we are looking for a team player who will help us achieve and exceed product and business growth targets while simultaneously driving improved quality and customer satisfaction.  The successful candidate will work as a member of an engineering design team that develops electrical control panels and enclosures from concept through production including analysis of component selections and layouts to ensure a robust and cost competitive panel design.

This is an Entry-level Electrical and Electronics professional who designs control panels, operates engineering software and equipment, and confers with stakeholders regarding engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Performs engineering work and applied research, development, and design for new products to ensure quality standards and functional objectives are met.
  • Troubleshoots electrical devices problems to ensure that issues are resolved efficiently.
  • Resolves day-to-day technical problems on the production lines to minimize disruption.
  • Participates in technical preparations for new product development and implementation to ensure new products meet the required specifications.
  • Operates computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
  • Completes drawing designs as required to facilitate the engineering process.
  • Confers with engineers, customers, vendors and other stakeholders on existing and potential engineering projects or products.

Electrical Design 

  • Utilization of Microsoft Office products to generate product configurations and initial bills-of-material for control panels 
  • Creation of control panel harness designs, including the utilization of AutoCAD to generate harness drawings 
  • Assist mechanical designers in the creation of enclosure and assembly drawings 
  • Assembly and evaluation of physical mock-ups of control boxes and panels 

Leadership 

  • Participation in the generation of schedules, proposals, budgets, and scopes for engineering work. 
  • Participation in project design reviews 
  • Interaction with control box team members to create new control box designs and features according to customer specifications 
  • Possess the ability to communicate effectively through various means including written, verbal and electronic formats 

Technical Competence 

  • Perform technical write ups as necessary to explain results of studies &


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Theoretical knowledge obtained through a University degree
  • Limited to some knowledge of Carrier organization
