The primary role of this position is to provide engineering product support for the Commercial Chiller manufacturing in the Carrier Charlotte, NC facility. This role will provide ongoing support for these products, to include interaction with Production, Quality, Warranty, Marketing/Sales and Product Safety departments. A successful sustaining engineer must have strong communication and problem solving skills and be able to interact with Manufacturing Engineers and production technicians, as well as fellow Product Engineers and Quality Engineers.

Looking for an established Mechanical Engineer. Conducts product development activities and studies, executes and analyzes tests, and produces parts, designs, or sketches, following all appropriate Mechanical Engineering design, safety, and qualification standards.
 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support product/design issues brought to light by manufacturing, including design improvements, problem-solving around assembly, and/or parts substitutions
  • Participate in product development and sustaining activities, including engineering studies, feasibility studies, cost estimates, and implementation of standard and non-standard specifications
  • Support product tasks related to Quality, Warranty reduction, Product Cost Reduction, and Safety Improvements
  • Support design and analysis activities around pressure vessel design and manufacture, specifically including ASME Sec VIII, Div 1
  • Interact with outside agencies such as UL, Intertek, ASME, AHRI, ASHRAE, and CRN
  • Support work toward commonality and optimization of products & components to reduce design errors and escapes
  • Support the teams with ideas for productivity improvements and complexity reduction projects
  • Execute tests for systems, sub-systems, and components. Analyze test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives
  • Follow all appropriate design, safety, and qualification standards in development programs
  • Work toward commonality and optimization of product & components to reduce design errors and escapes
  • Test models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess operating condition effects
  • Produce parts, specifications, designs, or sketches for machines, components, systems or work orders / purchase requests

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree
  • 5+ years of experience on commercial equipment design, troubleshooting, production support or similar role


Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS or MS in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Interdisciplinary engineering considered
  • The preferred candidate will have a basic understanding of Commercial machinery and equipment, as well as manufacturing processes
  • Strong capability in MS office applications, and basic CAD systems
  • Familiarity with Engineering processes, including FMEA, root cause analysis, continuous improvement tools, drawing/BOM structure
