About this role:
Carrier is looking for software, electrical, mechanical, systems, and other engineering majors with demonstrated leadership ability and strong academic performance to join our competitive Carrier Engineering Leadership Program (ELP). The ELP offers new graduates an opportunity to deliver impactful contributions to strategic projects through three eight-month rotations across various Carrier business units.
Candidates selected for the program will receive front-line, hands-on, meaningful assignments designed to stretch their capabilities and accelerate their professional development. In addition to the hands-on experience, the program includes high-caliber training, mentorship, and guidance from our diverse team of Carrier executives and program alumni to build a strong and lasting global network of colleagues.

We are seeking an inventive, motivated, results-oriented HW Design Engineer to work in our Hardware Development Team. As an Electronic Hardware Design Engineer, you will be responsible for system and board level design of wired and wireless room/building/campus networked automation controllers for commercial use. You will contribute to the design of a robust product offering for our control networks and work in a collaborative manner with firmware engineers and other hardware design engineers, as well as Manufacturing and Project Management. You will be responsible for assisting with product design solutions from concept to production and field support as necessary.
This individual will need good communication skills while working with Hardware Development Engineers, HW Test Engineers, Mechanical Engineers and other development teams. These communication skills will assist in coordinating and disseminating information properly to others, as well as maintaining project and design records and other engineering documentation as appropriate. This person also knows how/where to get answers and can overcome obstacles. Simply put, we are looking for smart people that can get things done.
Please note: this role is part of Carrier’s Engineering Leadership Program (ELP). We are currently recruiting for the 2024 ELP Cohort to start at Carrier in June 2024.
Key Responsibilities:
System and board level design and analysis of building automation controllers for commercial and industrial use,
Research, development, design, and qualification testing of networked electronic modules, equipment and systems,
Leading and supporting product development projects, which require interfacing with component, layout, agency compliance, mechanical and test engineers, participating in engineering and manufacturing design reviews, as well as assisting with field testing and introducing new designs into manufacturing,
This position does not include direct supervisory or personnel management responsibilities,
You will not have direct field support responsibilities; however, you will be called upon to help our technical support department resolve field issues,
Supporting continuous improvement of our products and product development processes
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical, software, electrical, systems, or other relevant engineering fields
To be eligible for the program, you must be a 2023 or 2024 graduate of the degree in the relevant field
3.0 or higher GPA
A minimum of one prior internship or co-op experience in a related field
Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship
Willing to rotate and relocate to US offices over the course of the two-year program
Ability to start position on Leadership Program start date in June 2024

Demonstrated technical understanding and skills in general engineering, software, systems, electrical, Model-based development (MBD), chemical or mechanical
Working knowledge of digital design and analog design
Experience with designing microprocessor-based control systems
Working knowledge of semiconductors such as microcontrollers, FPGA’s, DDR3, eMMC, serial interfaces and communication networks (I2C/SPI/UART/USB/RS-485), 10/100/1000BaseT Ethernet networks, switched-mode and linear voltage regulators, analog-to-digital converters, digital-to-analog converters, isolation and analog interfacing techniques
Experience with circuit modeling and simulation tools (PSPICE based or other) is preferred
Working knowledge of signal integrity fundamentals, power and timing analysis, DFT/DFM, FMEA, component stress derating analysis and cost analysis
Knowledge of designing robust circuits that meet EMC test requirements
Knowledge of practical product design issues and trade-offs in commercial and industrial applications
Familiarity with lab equipment such as spectrum analyzers, digital multimeter or DMM, signal generators, amplifiers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.
Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout software tools
Experience documenting development data in test reports and detailed design documents, familiarity developing procedures and/or test specifications
Working knowledge of networking protocols and applications would be useful
Hardware architecture experience is a plus
System analysis and troubleshooting capability is desirable
Understanding of global compliance requirements like CE, UL, FCC, experience with UL 916 and EN 50491 a plus
Basic lab skills such as test instrumentation, soldering, wiring and board assembly is a plus
Experience with Cadence Allegro tool set is preferred
Familiarity with Linux and/or developing firmware for embedded controls is useful
Familiarity with Carrier/ALC HVAC controllers will be especially helpful
Understanding of MS Project and breakdown structures is a plus
