About this role

Carrier is looking for someone who can thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and you’re looking to make an impact within a global quality team, we want you!  Each day, our quality team is working within and across functions, to continuously improve our products and processes.  We’re looking for a high-energy, self-motivated, industrial engineer to help us grow our market-leading position.  As an Industrial Engineer, you’ll be an integral member of the Indianapolis Carrier Excellence Team and work alongside industrial engineers, operations leaders and continuous improvement to ensure the production lines are balanced to improve flow and increase productivity.

Key Responsibilities

As a primary business partner, this role involves:

  • Develop strategic and tactical capacity models based on time studies and downtime analysis
  • Analyze demand and model mix to optimize product flow through multiple assembly lines and cells
  • Design the layout for each work cell to promote flow and operator efficiency
  • Analyze the current process to identify and remove waste
  • Design flexible workstations to efficiently respond to fluctuating seasonal demand
  • Split work content to balance each line and identify required labor to meet demand
  • Define work content per cell and create visual standard work
  • Define what material is required at each work cell
  • Ensure all operators have all the training and materials in their new work cells to enable them to be successful 
  • Analyze current process to identify and mitigate ergonomic risk
  • Maintain layout (in AutoCAD)

Required Qualifications

We are looking for someone to engage and supervise team members in key engineering situations. You will need:

  • BA/BS degree in Industrial Engineering or related discipline with 2-5 years’ of experience
  • 3+ years of lean manufacturing, cell design, and line balancing experience
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment required (sheet metal fabrication preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience developing standard visual work preferred
  • 2+ years of Capacity modeling and planning experience
  • 2+ years of demonstrated analytical, decision making, and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

Other qualifications you may have that would be beneficial in this role include:

  • MA/MS  Industrial Engineering degree with 1-2 years of experience
  • Strong leadership qualities
  • Strong organization skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly across all levels of leadership
  • Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint, AutoCAD
  • The ability to quickly learn new computer systems
  • Effective at working with stakeholders at all organization levels
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to convey complex ideas simply
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple priorities gracefully under pressure
  • Demonstrated leadership and motivation in a complex work environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to facilitate and motivate teams
  • Understanding of lean principles and systems thinking to effectively lead the projects and process improvement initiatives
  • Analytical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent project management skills and comfortable communicating at all levels of management and with external customers and suppliers
  • Highly motivated, organized and flexible individual that is customer and results focused
