About this role

Established Mechanical Engineer. Conducts product development activities and studies, executes and analyzes tests, and produces parts, designs, or sketches, following all appropriate Mechanical Engineering design, safety, and qualification standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Refrigerant Testing and UL Certification
  • Enhanced Air Filtration
  • IAQ Sensing and Sourcing Application: Formaldehyde, IAQ VOC Sensing, Carbon Monoxide Combustion, Carbon Dioxide Combustion, Carbon Dioxide Capture, Occupancy Sensing
  • Sorbent and Gas Phase Filters including reactive products
  • Chemical and Physical reactions between Ozone, PM2.5, and Formaldehyde
  • HVAC Controls Programming and Algorithms Requirements Documentation
  • IAQ App Development Requirements Documentation
  • Contribute to heat transfer-focused projects and assist in key technology initiatives.
  • Support benchmarking, development, validation, and implementation of advanced technologies.
  • Evaluate IAQ based designs heat exchanger designs and heat transfer surface concepts using analytical and experimental methods.
  • Assist in developing state-of-art design and simulation tools; plan and conduct experiments for calibration and validation of modeling tools.
  • Provide support to product engineering teams to ensure proper application of new heat transfer technologies throughout the product development cycle.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment.

Role Purpose:

  • You will be a key member of Carrier’s Advanced Technologies (CAT) organization, whose mission is to provide innovative technology solutions across the company’s global product portfolio.
  • As an Engineer in the Indoor Air Quality Group, you will apply state-of-art design and simulation tools to optimize indoor air quality and sustainable energy metrics in HVAC&R systems.
  • You will utilize a variety of heat transfer test facilities to characterize the health of indoor air environments and generate fundamental data for the improvement of modeling and design tools.
  • You will apply skills in biological, VOC, CFM flow, heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics, including both single-phase and two-phase flows.
  • You will grow professionally to become a key contributor to strategic indoor air quality and heat transfer technology initiatives

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1+ years of experience with LabVIEW or Mechanical Engineering Design

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must get EPA Refrigerant license
  • Chemistry background would be ideal/Chemist would be ideal
  • Experience with gases, controls/system level controls
  • Relevant internships or co-op experiences preferred
  • Applicant must be US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Strong academic performance, GPA must be greater than or equal to 3.0 GPA (3.2 Preferred) 
  • Must be geographically mobile
  • Degree relevant to embedded software degrees, systems and controls engineering, automation control, controls technology.
  • Preferred Familiarity with Lab View
  • Preferred Familiarity with embedded software and interest in environmental solutions
  • Preferred Familiarity with HVAC&R equipment and systems
  • Preferred Familiarity with bioaerosol lab conditions and properties
  • Preferred Knowledge of DoE concepts (College Classes, Internship, or work experience) related to modern experimental methods, instrumentation, and measurement systems is desired
  • Preferred Experience in Python, EES and/or MATLAB computer programming languages
