About This Role: 

The Compressor Quality Technician and Analyst is responsible for conducting tear down inspections, documenting findings, and communicating information to the organization, suppliers and customers. This is a customer facing role Customer Witness Inspections, as well as providing diagnosis support for the Compressor Remanufacturing Group. The role is located at Carrier’s Syracuse, NY campus. 

Job Description:

Conduct compressor and component failure analysis Review and evaluate claims that come to Carlyle Conduct teardown analyses of compressors returned from customer plant locations Conduct teardown analyses of failed compressors from the field Create failure analysis reports based on teardown activity Warranty analysis based on failure analysis reports Lead and/or support root cause analysis and troubleshooting activities as associated with teardown inspections and Reman support. Travel to customer locations for inspection, analysis, sorting and containment activity Utilize Windchill to pull part drawings for review/analysis. Reference Operational BOMs in shared drive to assist in verification of components used to build Reman compressors, and to verify components as part of teardown inspection activity.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma OR GED 

  • Electro/mechanical training or 4+ years’ experience in a manufacturing or service/repair setting

  • Ability to travel less than 10% of the time (domestic or international)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in Industrial or Quality Engineering Technology 

  • ASQ Certification

  • Ability to read technical drawings - familiarity with GDT

  • Knowledge of Windchill system

  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint and Excel for documentation and data analysis Detail oriented, accurate, and precise in approach to work

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to learn and follow complex work processes 

  • Ability to work well as a team player in an open environment

  • Must demonstrate an ease of communication with internal and external customers

  • Proficient in analyzing information using basic queries and spreadsheet tools

  • Ability to present large volumes of data in summary format. Experience with basic gauges for part layout and measurement (e.g., micrometers, verniers, dial indicators, and profilometers)

  • Practical experience using problem solving and clue generation tools including 8D, 5-Why, DMAIC, Red-X, IS-IS NOT and/or fishbone analysis
