What You’ll Do in This Role

As Commissioning Engineer with our Sustainability Services team, you’ll ensure that building systems – from HVAC to lighting to controls – are installed and operated as designed. From kickoff through completion, you’ll collaborate with owners, designers, engineers, and contractors through all phases of a project.

You will also have the opportunity to learn about and contribute to our other services such as energy audits, retro-commissioning, testing, adjusting and balancing, decarbonization, and electrification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Visit job sites locally as well as across the U.S., testing systems and troubleshooting performance and installation issues
  • Meet with design and construction teams to review project goals and coordinate commissioning activities throughout project phases
  • Review project specifications, system designs, and equipment submittals to ensure they align with the owner’s goals
  • Create commissioning plans, installation checksheets, and functional performance tests tailored to each project
  • Lead site inspections to verify installation quality and conformance with construction documents
  • Execute functional performance testing to confirm systems operate as designed
  • Analyze energy usage data and BMS trends to assess system performance
  • Assist with Measurement and Verification (M&V) tasks, such as air and water flow measurements
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, including findings and recommendations for corrective actions
  • Leverage technical, communication, and leadership skills during client presentations
  • Stay up to date with new technologies, industry best practices, and evolving standards in commissioning, energy efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Travel up to 50%

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1+ years of experience commissioning commercial facilities, building controls, or facilities maintenance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Facilities Engineering, or similar
  • Experience in the following fields is a plus: energy auditing; mechanical or electrical design; construction management; control system installation or maintenance; HVAC testing and balancing; facilities operation and/or maintenance
  • Interest in or working toward industry certifications (BCxP, CBCP, EBCP, CEM, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and controls
  • Experience with relevant standards and codes (ASHRAE, LEED, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Facility Grid or other commissioning software
  • Knowledge of TAB processes and methods
  • Knowledge of energy auditing processes and analysis methodologies
  • Experience using testing equipment (anemometers, flow meters, data loggers, etc.)
  • Proficiency with MS Office software, particularly Excel
  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities
