About the role
The Senior Engineering Manager is a senior level position reporting to the Vice President of Engineering and can include the option of managing and training direct reports and/or participating in our sales and development process. You will join a team of several dozen design engineers in an engineering-centric organization, NORESCO has over 150 in-house engineers from nearly every discipline.
Engineering Managers are key members of our project teams and are relied upon for strong technical leadership. Our project teams include representatives from multiple departments; Development, Analysis, Construction, M&V, Commissioning, and O&M. Engineering Mangers are engaged with multiple projects from initial development through construction and into operations.
Manages a large team of both experienced professionals and team leaders in General Engineering. Directs key activities, manages budget and key performance, and plans for more effective utilization of human and material resources to achieve operational targets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Planning, directing, and monitoring project design functions through Engineers and Engineering Managers including design review, constructability review, bid management and sub-contractor selection, subcontract development, design deliverable development, commissioning, performance verification, as-built and record document tracking, and final project close-out and acceptance.
- Work with Engineering Managers to maintain the project design schedules, budgets, scopes of work, and the external and internal contract deliverables.
- Ensure that Engineering Managers are tracking design deliverables/submissions, customer comments and approvals, ensure all elements of the project scope are accurately designed, documented, reviewed, and distributed to the project team.
- Ensure project teams are conducting and documenting meetings and design charrettes both internal, with subcontractors and consultants, and with the customer and their advisors.
- Lead Engineering Managers, as required, during project development including: site investigations, design and construction constraints, constructability reviews, review of conceptual design documents (i.e. schematics, equipment selections, preliminary drawings, performance requirements, scopes of work, specifications, etc.).
- Support project pricing efforts at various stages of development. Final bid packages, subcontractor qualification, subcontractor bid-walks, use of third-party consultants, bid reviews, and value engineering.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Civil Engineering
- 15+ years Engineering management.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license
Preferred Qualifications:
- Work with various departments throughout design, construction, and commissioning to ensure each department understands and is prepared for performance phase services.
- Ensure Engineering Managers identify key customer interests, needs, and drivers. Review these with project team members to refine strategies and develop scopes that address these concerns in the proposed project.
- Mentor Engineers and team members to maintain their professional development as well as team members from other departments as necessary.
- Support sales and development groups to prospect clients, audit customer facilities, evaluate potential energy conservation measures, participate in sales presentations, and develop technical write-ups for competitive proposal responses.
- Identify and resolve engineering risks, including but not limited to performance analysis requirements, efficiency constraints, constructability issues, contingency requirements, resource management, and contractual obligations that affect the work.
- Manage the design process and progress for all assigned projects in the portfolio.
- Resource management and forecasting based on project needs.
- Interviewing and hiring team members to support existing and proposed projects.
- Work closely with the sales, development, construction, legal and finance departments.
