About this role

 Carrier Commercial Services has an opening for an experiencedTraveling Chiller Technician Service Manager. The Service Manager will work with a group of Operations Professionals and Union Field Technicians to efficiently execute planned maintenance, and installations of big commercial projects in an effort to exceed the expectations of our customers and meet revenue and margin targets. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of commercial air conditioning business including but not limited to relationship management, talent development, field operations, and safety. 

 

This role will require the Service Manager to be in the field 60% of the time and 40% of the time in the office.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary customer-facing representative, embodying and promoting the Carrier brand. 

  • Lead the hiring process for Data Center technicians, ensuring the selection of qualified candidates. 

  • Oversee onboarding of new technicians, including safety orientation, training procedures, and provisioning of devices and equipment. 

  • Serve as the union liaison, facilitating communication and maintaining positive relations between Carrier and union representatives. 

  • Conduct job site safety inspections and organize quarterly safety meetings to reinforce safety culture. 

  • Interact regularly with the master scheduler to ensure technician staffing needs are accurately met for each project. 

  • Manage requests for tools, personal protective equipment (PPE), vehicles, and uniforms for field teams. 

  • Maintain responsibility for fleet management, ensuring vehicles are properly assigned, maintained, and available. 

  • Approve daily timesheets and travel requests for Data Center technicians. 

  • Travel to Data Center sites to oversee operations and support field teams. 

  • Forecast, monitor, and document financial performance against plan 

  • Coordinate, prioritize and resolve issues encountered by the team. 

  • Optimize the usage of manpower, standard time, equipment and energy to complete open work 

  • Escalate critical/complex issues that will impact the business 

  • Manage the team according to established programs and objectives 

  • Implement, monitor, manage the quality of work 

  • Respond to key customer complaints, carry out customer satisfaction investigations and ensure establishment of appropriate improvement plans 

 

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED 

  • 10+ years of experience in commercial HVAC and/or in the service industry. 

  • 3+ years’ experience managing and or training field service teams, including union technicians, with a focus on performance and efficiency. 

  • Ability to Travel 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. 

  • Expertise in startup and commissioning of industrial HVAC systems and understanding of data center reliability standards. 

  • Strong technical knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, including diagnostics, controls, and maintenance. 

  • Familiarity with safety standards, building codes, and compliance requirements. 

  • Proven ability to build customer relationships and resolve issues effectively. 

  • Proficient in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), Microsoft Office, and dispatch tools 

  • Skilled in budgeting, forecasting, and resource planning 

  • Clear and confident communicator with all organizational levels 

  • Flexible and hands-on, comfortable in both office and field environments
