Summary
The primary responsibility of this position is to integrate chiller and motor control hardware into the chiller system. In this capacity, the engineer will be primarily responsible to develop solutions that best meet the chiller product requirements by working with product management to define needs and supply chain to identify best suppliers.
The preferred candidate will have a strong understanding of chiller and motor control systems and related component layout and packaging.
Serving as a critical technical link between engineering design, factory production, and field performance, this is an onsite position based at the Carrier-Charlotte facility located at 9701 Old Statesville Road, Charlotte, NC 28269.
Responsibilities
- Electrical engineering for control and power panel integration into chiller products. Experience in design and/or integration of variable frequency power electronics is preferred.
- Ability to size and select applicable electrical components and wiring to operate motors, valves, etc.
- Ability to create, edit and read electrical power and control schematics.
- Ability to create and modify I/O mapping of electronic controls.
- Collaborate with product management, software, chiller systems and compression engineering to define controls and motor controller requirements.
- Work with supply chain to identify suppliers to produce our control and motor controls solutions.
- Provide oversight of our control and motor control production.
- Ensure code compliance is maintained.
- Conduct and support lab-based testing to validate electrical components and system performance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 2+ years of experience in control panel design and layout, electrical component sizing and application.
- 2+ years of experience in ensuring Code compliance is maintained.
- Able and willing to travel up to 20% domestically to support project requirements and site visits.
Preferred Qualifications
- HVAC experience.
- Experience in design and/or integration of variable frequency power electronics.
- High voltage experience
- Lab testing experience.
- DFMEA analysis.
- Experience in design and/or integration of variable frequency power electronics.
- Project leadership experience.
- Strong communication skills, primarily in English.
- Leadership and teamwork skills.
