Summary

The primary responsibility of the Staff Electrical Engineer is to integrate chiller and motor control hardware into the chiller system. Additionally, this position plays a key role in supporting specialized data center projects. In this capacity, the engineer will be primarily responsible to develop solutions that best meet the chiller product requirements by working with product management to define needs and supply chain to identify best suppliers. The preferred candidate will have a strong understanding of chiller and motor control systems and related component packaging.

Serving as a critical technical link between engineering design, factory production, and field performance, this is an onsite position based at the Carrier-Charlotte facility located at 9701 Old Statesville Road, Charlotte, NC 28269.

Role Purpose

  • New Product Development.
  • Sustain Engineering for existing products.
  • Contribute to next generation of chiller designs and technology.
  • Electrical engineering for control and power electronic integration into chiller products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Electrical engineering for control and power electronic integration into chiller products.  
  • Experience in design and/or integration of variable frequency power electronics necessary.
  • Collaborate with product management, software, chiller systems and compression engineering to define controls and motor controller requirements.
  • Work with supply chain to identify suppliers to produce our control and motor controls solutions. 
  • Provide oversight of our control and motor control production.  
  • Ensure code compliance is maintained. 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in control panel design and layout, electrical component sizing and application.
  • 4+ years of experience in ensuring Code Compliance is maintained.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in control panel design and layout, electrical component sizing and application, and ensuring Code Compliance is maintained.
  • MS or Ph D in Electrical or related engineering.
  • Project leadership experience.
  • HVAC industry experience.
  • Experience in design and/or integration of variable frequency power electronics.
  • High voltage experience
  • Lab testing experience.
  • DFMEA analysis.
  • Experience in design and/or integration of variable frequency power electronics.
  • Draft and refine complex electrical schematics to power and control chiller units.
  • Identify and resolve production line issues by updating engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Providing technical guidance to Field Service Engineers and technicians to address complex electrical queries from the field.
  • Conduct and support lab-based testing to validate electrical components and system performance.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure design intent is maintained throughout the build process.
  • Design and develop electrical panels and control systems for chiller platforms.
  • Execute sustaining engineering initiatives, including drawing updates and design improvements for active products.
  • Support field service operations by acting as a subject matter expert for electrical troubleshooting.
  • Manage laboratory testing and validation processes for electrical systems and components.
  • Strong communication skills, primarily in English
