Experienced Mechanical/Electrical Engineer. Executes elements of product development activities and testing. Responsible for enhancing commonality and optimization of product and components.
The Product Engineering Department in Athens, Ga is seeking a self-motivated Engineer to work in the Material Productivity Engineering Team. This team is tasked with Cost Optimization Projects for North America across the following product lines: Truck, Trailer, APU, GENSET, and Solara. The role entails leading projects using the Value Engineering and Value Analysis process, Engineering Qualification Process and the internal Quality Review Board (QRB) Process. Candidates will be the Engineering Lead for Cost Optimization projects from ideation to implementation. This will require working in a cross-functional environment which includes communicating with other Engineers both at a factory and R&D levels, including new Product Development, and working with Supply Chain and Suppliers. Additionally, seeking a candidate with skills in modal analysis and/or data analysis, including but not limited to Finite Element Analysis (FEA), modeling Statistical Analysis, (MatLab and/or Minitab), and IPM Model Analysis.
The Material Productivity, Senior Engineer will work with global, cross disciplinary teams to apply model based design, analytical verification tools and methods to lead product and component cost optimization projects for a full range of HVAC/R equipment and systems for transport applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate potential Cost Optimization opportunities
- Work closely with Technical Experts (TRB) to develop feasibility and qualification plan for cost reduction ideas
- Prepare and present updates to engineering team
- Ensure component and system requirements and impacts are captured, structured, and modeled via DFMEA and other root cause analysis tools methodologies
- Lead the qualification process and analyze and present test data to Technical team and stakeholders
- Ensure controls system requirements are captured, structured, and modeled
- Perform Engineering Qualification tasks on Material Productivity Projects
- Develop test plans and lab instrumentation needs to qualify Cost Optimization ideas
- Utilize continuous product & process improvement principles to streamline project deliverables
- Work closely with business personnel to obtain information/data needed for project execution
- Develop and manage Project Schedules including Qualification Testing Timelines, QRB Deliverables, and Supplier Tasks
- Prepare and present Project Updates to Engineering Team and Cross Functional Groups
- Conduct Technical Reviews with key experts
- Perform Data Analysis, Drawing/Model Review, Reliability & Cost Analysis using various tools
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- 5+ years’ experience in product engineering
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree
- Knowledge of and experience with DFMEA/PFMEA principles as related to root cause/corrective action problem resolution methods (preferred skill)
- Demonstrated use of lab instruments and data acquisition devices for analyzing and testing mechanical and electrical components (preferred skill)
- Demonstrated use of model-based verification techniques (preferred skill)
- Knowledge of refrigeration principles and systems a plus
- Demonstrated ability to deliver projects/tasks on schedule
- Demonstrated Project Management skills with managing multiple projects
- Practical application of textbook knowledge required
- Effective communication skills (verbal & written)
- Energetic team player with proven self-motivation and adaptability skills
- Ability to work well with Suppliers, Peers, Management, and Cross-Functional Departments
- Proficient with MS Office Suite; Proficient with CAD Tools
- Proficient with Advanced Modeling and Data Analysis Tools
