About this role

In this role you will develop the vision for effective and efficient control systems and build roadmaps with the Carrier engineering organizations. Develop and sustain strong partnership with academia and National Laboratories to identify talent and technology to bring into Carrier and to develop strong talent pipelines and develop leaders in controls for Carrier to have a strong capability in Systems & Controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading a model-based Controls engineering team as part of the Systems & Controls CoE supporting Carrier Business Units as a matrixed organization.
  • Develop and deploy embedded control systems methods & tools across the entire product development lifecycle ranging from early technology evaluation, new product introduction, to aftermarket and field support
  • Ensure that appropriate control systems methods are captured in workflows and deployed as Standard Work across Carrier
  • Ensure quality deployment of controls systems, methods and tools to ongoing Business Unit projects directing staff to achieve on time and budget delivery.
  • Development of workflows/standard work that capture prescriptive and reliable processes for carrying out control system development from requirements capture to architecture determination and validation to implementation and verification
  • Deployment of workflows with appropriate training working with Carrier University
  • Develop a global staff to be leaders in controls across Carrier and to be able to take on increasing levels of responsibility in product development.
  • Build talent and technology pipelines leveraging University partnerships and National Labs worldwide

Basic Qualifications

  • BS Engineering
  • 8+ years of experience in New Product Introduction with Embedded Systems
  • 5+ years of experience in Control Systems development and Matlab/Simulink for modeling control algorithms, auto code generation and VnV
  • 5+ years of experience with talent management, training, mentoring and development.

Preferred Qualifications

Other qualifications you may have that would be beneficial in this role include:

  • MS or PhD in Engineering highly preferred
  • Control systems development and deployment in industrial environments.
  • System engineering knowledge including requirements management, validation and verification methods (e.g. MIL, SIL and HIL).
  • Experience with Dymola/Modelica, FMI standard a plus.
  • Experience working with academia and National Laboratories in collaboration and to establish talent pipelines.
  • Development and implementation of algorithms and analysis tools for control systems.
  • Knowledge of methods, tools and domain specific languages used in controls – from requirements to design to verification.
  • Skills in model-based development including working in stage gate process with risk management, developing and using and validating physical and data based models and specific experience in gradient based large scale optimization and uncertainty quantification used in control systems design and analysis.
  • Strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills and ability to work across business units and other engineering functions.
  • Strong facilitation, team building, collaboration, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
