About This Role:

As a Senior Component Qualification Engineer, you will be at the forefront of qualifying new components and materials to enhance the competitiveness of Carrier HVAC units. Your mission is to reduce costs without compromising quality, reliability, performance, or safety. This role requires you to create test plans, collaborate with suppliers and internal engineers, analyze test data, and provide recommendations for design improvements. You will be working on various projects, responsible for establishing project schedules, tracking timelines, adhering to deadlines, and managing budgets. Your work will also involve presenting to review board members and making decisions on which components will replace existing ones. In short, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of thousands of HVAC units.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of several small to medium-scale product improvement projects concurrently, showcasing your ability to see projects through from start to completion.
  • Provide expert technical guidance to team members, drawing upon your advanced knowledge of Mechanical Engineering principles.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse audiences, including senior leadership and cross-functional team members (Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, Aftermarket, and Quality), as well as external suppliers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the planning and implementation of Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) projects and activities, translating design requirements into specifications for components, subsystems, and products.
  • Understand product/component function, reliability, and quality requirements.
  • Work closely with Supplier Quality, Field Quality, and Reliability teams to ensure VAVE initiatives meet all design reliability requirements.
  • Develop accurate and comprehensive test plans, ensuring flawless execution on the first attempt.
  • Assess VAVE initiatives for technical feasibility, solution complexity, and risk potential.
  • Lead VAVE initiatives from their inception through to successful implementation.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree with 3+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of experience leading projects to qualify various components and/or systems for production use in the HVAC industry.
  • Self-starter, quick learner, and adept at working independently with minimal direction and supervision.
  • Experience includes working collaboratively in a team environment with cross-functional support groups (Supplier Quality, Field Quality, Marketing, Reliability, Manufacturing, Aftermarket, Sourcing).
  • Possess the capability to navigate a wealth of information resources and identify critical information effectively.
  • Familiar with industry-wide accepted system engineering tools.
  • Microsoft skills are at an expert level, encompassing Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint.
  • Organizational skills are top-notch, with strong attention to detail, enabling you to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Proven track record of implementing continuous improvements and standardizing processes.
  • Knowledge includes an understanding of gas heating systems, refrigeration systems, and electrical system requirements.
  • Experience with vapor-compression refrigeration or power generation systems, including related components such as TXVs, heat exchangers, and compression technologies, will be a valuable asset.
  • Understand the fundamentals of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, outgoing, and actively seek out answers.
  • Communication skills are excellent, and you have previous experience in team collaboration.
