About this role:

Carrier is looking for software, electrical, mechanical, systems, and other engineering majors with demonstrated leadership ability and strong academic performance to join our competitive Carrier Engineering Leadership Program (ELP). The ELP offers new graduates an opportunity to deliver impactful contributions to strategic projects through three eight-month rotations across various Carrier business units.

Candidates selected for the program will receive front-line, hands-on, meaningful assignments designed to stretch their capabilities and accelerate their professional development. In addition to the hands-on experience, the program includes high-caliber training, mentorship, and guidance from our diverse team of Carrier executives and program alumni to build a strong and lasting global network of colleagues.

We’re looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas within the skills of the future- Cyber Security, Embedded Systems, Model Based Development, and Software development. The Software Engineer will be part of a team transforming our refrigeration products into a connected intelligent platform to provide to our customers real time remote access and information. Specifically, the Software Engineer will work in an agile environment reviewing and contributing to user story definition, sizing, execution and test, as well as developing robust DevOps solutions.  This position produces significant results through a broad and deep functional knowledge, demonstration of independence, sound engineering judgment, and the building of strong coaching/mentoring peer relationships. 

Please note: this role is part of Carrier’s Engineering Leadership Program (ELP). We are currently recruiting for the 2024 ELP Cohort to start at Carrier in June 2024.

Key Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities will be:

  • Design and implement real time embedded software solutions.

  • Apply agile software lifecycle management tools, contribute to sizing of work items.

  • Use model-based design principles and tools for embedded software development

  • Interface with systems engineers to understand requirements and applications and translate them into specific hardware and software specifications.

  • Prototype new solutions to prove technology concepts.

  • Contribute to improving software development processes with new ideas and introducing new tools, including model based design.

  • Use simulation and emulation tools for rapid verification of software modules.

  • Clearly communicate technical information to both developers and business stakeholders.

  • Introduce and advance controls development technologies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, software, electrical, systems, or other relevant engineering fields

  • To be eligible for the program, you must be a 2023 or 2024 graduate of the degree in the relevant field

  • 3.0 or higher GPA

  • A minimum of one prior internship or co-op experience in a related field

  • Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship

  • Willing to rotate and relocate to US offices over the course of the two-year program

  • Ability to start position on Leadership Program start date in June 2024

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proactive and results-driven; thrives in a fast-paced and dynamic environment

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with cross-functional teams

  • Demonstrated technical understanding and skills in general engineering, software, systems, electrical, Model-based development (MBD), chemical or mechanical

  • Strong C++ and C programming skills for embedded systems applications.

  • Development of real time applications with use of RTOS including Embedded Linux.

  • Formulation and execution of unit testing, debugging, and troubleshooting.

  • Experience with microcontroller systems.

  • Experience with model-based design tools and methods including software modeling (UML/Rhapsody, Simulink/Stateflow), autocode generation, testing and verification

  • Experience with Agile Scrum development, continuous development, and continuous integration environments.

  • Knowledge of control system and system diagnostics algorithms and their design process

  • Familiarity with cybersecurity vulnerability aspects applied to embedded systems

  • Experience with Git and with Git workflows

  • Demonstrated teamwork capabilities in a diverse and global setting

  • A proactive individual with demonstrate capability to innovate, propose new ideas, show curiosity, question the status quo
