    About this Role
    We are seeking a junior-level programmer with a solid foundation in computer science and programming to join our Codes and Standards Software team. This candidate is a proactive, junior-level programmer with a strong foundation in computer science and software development, capable of independently managing complex tasks. They demonstrate initiative, rapidly self-teaching new technologies to deliver solutions across database management, web APIs, scripting, and software maintenance. With a knack for problem-solving and resourcefulness, they support projects effectively, collaborating with non-technical stakeholders while driving technical outcomes in a small-team environment.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Manage and maintain AWS database infrastructure, write efficient SQL queries to support data analysis; perform routine database administration; and design dashboards for data visualization and reporting.
    • Work with web APIs, handle XML and JSON payloads, use XSLT to transform XML data, apply XSL-FO and Python-based libraries to generate structured reports, including PDFs.
    • Contribute to the development and maintenance of XSD schemas to validate XML data and ensuring data integrity and consistency.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • 3+ years of professional software programming experience
    • 2+ years of experience writing SQL queries and performing basic database maintenance tasks in a cloud environment (preferably AWS) and/or developing or integrating RESTful web APIs

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Core Programming Skills: Proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language, ideally Python. Familiarity with basic programming concepts (variables, loops, functions, data structures, and algorithms).
    • Building Science: Basic understanding/interest in building science, building energy analysis, energy codes, and/or energy code compliance workflows
    • Energy Code Compliance Software: Ability to apply knowledge of energy codes and/or building science to support the development and maintenance of energy code compliance software.
    • Scripting and Automation: Comfortable writing scripts to automate tasks, using Python or similar scripting languages.
    • Adaptability and Learning: Strong problem-solving skills and a demonstrated ability to learn new technologies, tools, and domain-specific concepts on the job.
    • Team Collaboration: Basic communication skills to work with cross-functional teams, including non-technical stakeholders, to understand requirements and deliver solutions.
