About this role

The candidate will develop new HVAC products that meet future environmental regulations and implement next generation technologies. The ideal candidate will have experience with design and development of residential heating and cooling products (Splits Systems and/or Packaged Units). The candidate will collaborate with product development engineers, test lab technicians, model makers, and designers in a team environment. Effective interfacing with other functional groups such as Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing and suppliers is necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
 

  • Lead project teams, providing oversight to cross-functional project teams.

  • Lead gated reviews of major projects including the preparation of the presentation.

  • Use existing vapor compression modeling systems to model and validate new product designs.

  • Coordinate prototype builds and verification testing of new designs in psychrometric test rooms.

  • Collaborate with designers to specify new components/parts and review bill of materials using feedback from manufacturing, marketing, quality, and service parts in the final design.

  • Collaborate with design teams to understand and translate design and process engineering requirements into product line design components, sub-systems, and products.

  • Work with process design engineers to develop and plan project scope and timeline using MS Project.

  • Collaborate with Quality/Reliability/Manufacturing/Sourcing to implement key metrics into the design of the product and ensure all reliability design goals are achieved.

  • Responsible for execution of large projects from concept to launch and for complex components in projects.

  • Responsible for quality, accuracy, and meeting schedule deadlines through innovative and independent efforts.

  • Expected to contribute to the broader team through mentorship, knowledge application, and technical guidance in one or more functional areas.

  • Fully developed professional able to work without direct guidance or direction from others.


Required Qualifications:
 

  • Must have one of the following degrees and experience;

    • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with 15+ years of experience

    • Master of Science degree with 10+ years of experience

  • 10+ years of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics

  • 10+ years of experience with vapor compression systems (Air conditioners, heat pumps, refrigerators, dehumidifiers, automotive air conditioning, etc.)

  • 10+ years of experience with cooling systems (including refrigeration psychometrics); and electrical system requirements, in order to assess internal and supplier data.

  • 10+ years of experience with product/component function, reliability and quality requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Self-starter with ability to learn quickly and work independently under minimum direction and without day-to-day supervision.

  • Lead cross-functional stakeholders to develop and implement key metrics into the product design and reliability design goals.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a diverse audience.

  • Understanding of Industry-wide accepted system engineering tools.

  • Intermediate level skills with Microsoft; Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint.

  • Organized, with strong attention to detail, while managing multiple priorities.

  • Proven ability to implement continuous improvements and standardized processes.

  • Flexibility to take on ad-hoc assignments as needed.

  • Has expert knowledge of Mechanical Engineering.
